Nürburgring tribute paying BMW M’s cars coming to South Africa

In anticipation of the Nürburgring's 100th anniversary next year, BMW has unveiled a series of commemorative M models destined for South Africa in limited quantities. The three models of each iteration - the M2, M3 sedan and touring, M4 coupe and sedan, and M5 sedan and touring - feature a few exclusive touches, both inside and out, but without any mechanical modifications.

Each vehicle is painted a distinct shade of Nürburgring Green, named after the iconic "Green Hell" circuit, and adorned with a graphic representation of the race track on their doors, emblazoned with the "100" and "Nürburgring since 1927" logos. The M3 sedan, M3 Touring, and M4 receive green accents on their wheels and grilles, with the latter restricted to models finished in Sapphire Black.

Inside, the vehicles boast an embroidered outline of the 'Ring on the front seat headrests, in black for the M5s and in green for the others. Additionally, a special 100-year plaque is situated on the cupholder lids in front of the gear lever. The standard interior features a black leather upholstery with green and white stitching, and the M steering wheel is trimmed in Alcantara with a grey 12 o'clock marker.

Despite being named after the historic racetrack, no performance enhancements have been made to the cars. The M2 continues to produce 353kW/600Nm from its S58 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine, while the M3 sedan and M3 Touring generate 390kW/650Nm, and the M5 combines a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an 18.6-kWh battery pack, delivering an electric motor of 145kW/280Nm.

This combination affords a top speed of 305 km/h and a 70 km all-electric range. The exact pricing has yet to be disclosed by BMW South Africa, likely to be revealed upon the delivery of the allocated units, either by year-end or in 2027.
