FM, UN envoy discuss latest developments in Yemen

On Monday, September 28, 2026, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, held a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg. During their discussion, they addressed the recent happenings in Yemen and their implications for regional security.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki reported that Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's unwavering commitment to supporting Yemen's unity and safeguarding its recognized national institutions. He emphasized the necessity of achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in order to restore stability within the Arab nation.

Abdelatty stressed the significance of Yemen's stability for the security of the Red Sea region and the broader regional security. He further expressed Egypt's support for all initiatives aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement that aligns with the Yemeni people's desires and protects the country's resources and capabilities.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining freedom of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, considering their direct connection to the global economy and the impacts on international trade and supply chains, particularly in terms of food and energy supplies.

Grundberg informed Abdelatty about the latest developments in Yemen, as well as the results of his recent efforts and contacts intended to contain the crisis and reduce tensions in the region.
