Taylor Swift becomes most-awarded artist in MTV VMAs history

At the age of 36, the pop sensation surpassed her rival Beyonce, who held the previous record with 30 Moonman statuettes. Swift broke the tie by accepting the inaugural Artist Director Honors, recognizing her vision in visual storytelling for The Fate of Ophelia.

She also claimed the prestigious Video of the Year award, dedicating it to country icon Dolly Parton, praising her legacy and storytelling prowess. Swift used this opportunity to premiere the video for her new single Patient Zero, starring Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson.

Artist of the Year went to Madonna, who reminisced about her early MTV days, including backstage humiliation from a manager who once told her career was over.

Madonna also opened the show with her first performance since the infamous 2003 medley where she kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The night also honored Nirvana as the Video Vanguard Award recipient, the first group to receive this accolade in over 20 years.
