Zverev comeback leads Europe to Laver Cup victory

Team Europe secured their sixth Laver Cup title on the final day of the competition, thanks to a resounding victory by Alexander Zverev over Learner Tien. The US Open champion Zverev, who has participated in all six of Team Europe's Laver Cup wins, overcame a tough loss to Alex de Minaur on the previous day to deliver a 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 win at London's O2 Arena.

Following Carlos Alcaraz's impressive performance, which kept Europe in contention after their defeat on day two, Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik triumphed in the doubles against De Minaur and Taylor Fritz, further extending their lead. Zverev's victory ensured Team Europe achieved the required 13 points to clinch the championship, rendering Alcaraz's subsequent play unnecessary.

Reflecting on his achievement, Zverev remarked, "It's my first Laver Cup win in two years, so I'm delighted to secure it today," crediting the strong team chemistry of Team World, stating, "Winning as a team, there's no better feeling in sports. We don't have enough of it in tennis." Tien, making his Team World debut at the age of 20, displayed resilience in the first set, but Zverev dominated the second set to secure the crucial win in just over an hour.
