Trump rallies USA fans in bid to inspire comeback victory at Presidents Cup

Donald Trump extended his influence to the Presidents Cup by assuming the role of honorary chairman. This marked his fourth visit to a golf tournament this year, following his participation in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage, which generated a lively atmosphere during the first tee at the Black Course. Trump also made appearances at the 2017 Presidents Cup and Medinah Country Club, where he boosted the home crowd's morale before the tournament began with a 10.5-7.5 lead, aiming for a 15.5-point victory.

Unlike conventional golf events, the Presidents Cup features a vibrant, flag-waving crowd and lively music. The U.S. team faced its fourth defeat in 32 years preceding Sunday, with 15.5 points requisite for a win. As the grandstand filled, the most significant commotion was Air Force One's arrival at Medinah, surpassing the regular commercial flights overhead throughout the week.

Brian Rolapp, PGA Tour CEO, introduced Trump as the honorary chairman, emphasizing the significance of the event, which ranks among the most prominent in golf. Trump explained that he accepted the honor to participate in such a grand occasion. The Presidents Cup, established in 1994, incorporated international players from non-European nations ineligible for the prestigious Ryder Cup.

The event's name derives from the inclusion of the host country's head of state as the honorary chairman. Notable past honorary chairmen include Justin Trudeau, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Trump's inaugural appearance was in 2017, coinciding with the convergence of Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama on the first tee during the opening round.

Today, Trump faced the U.S. team at Cadillac Championship in Miami and LIV Golf event in New Jersey, and recently attended the Irish Open at his Doonbeg course in Ireland. Trump expressed enthusiasm about the world's best players competing at the Presidents Cup, noting its exceptional power, touch, and other aspects of the game.
