Re-released ‘Avengers: Endgame’ snaps-up N. America box office lead

Avengers: Endgame re-released in North America for a weekend box office lead of US$26 million, propelling it to the second-highest grossing film ever with worldwide earnings of US$2.8 billion. The film boasted a star-studded ensemble cast, featuring Robert Downey Jr, Josh Brolin, and Scarlett Johansson. The sequel to the 2019 superhero movie is set to debut on December 18, with audiences anticipating four new post-credit scenes that will tease upcoming content.

Sony's Resident Evil secured the second spot domestically, earning an estimated US$23.3 million in the North American market, while Paramount's Heart of the Beast opened with US$20 million in its first weekend. Primetime, based on the real-life US show To Catch a Predator, debuted with US$19.2 million from A24. However, Forgotten Island, an animated family film, underperformed with just US$12.8 million in its opening weekend.

Industry analyst David A. Gross explained that the re-release is a strategic marketing move to generate buzz ahead of the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18.
