Man jailed 10 years for defiling 11-year-old girl at Kpandai

On September 24, 2026, in Digangan, a farming community within Kpandai District, Northern Region, a 37-year-old man named Tibini Atta allegedly committed a heinous act against an 11-year-old girl. The incident took place when the victim accompanied the suspect to a farm, where Atta is accused of performing sexual intercourse with her.

The young girl suffered injuries that required medical attention. Her uncle, a local farmer, reported the matter to the Kpandai Police around 2:55 p.m. on the same day. The victim was taken to the Kpandai District Hospital for treatment. Initially, she was admitted for care, but her nurse informed the police that she would be referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for more comprehensive management due to the severity of her injuries.

Tibini Atta appeared before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on September 25, 2026, and pleaded guilty to the charges against him. As a result of the court's decision, he was sentenced to a ten-year prison term. The Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) investigators from Tamale have since been in contact with the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The authorities report that the girl is responding positively to the treatment and that her condition is being closely monitored. Furthermore, the police have stated that they will continue to collaborate with the hospital and other relevant parties to ensure the victim's swift recovery.
