Man jailed 10 years for defiling 11-year-old girl at Kpandai

In a shocking case of child abuse in Kpandai District, Northern Region, a 37-year-old man named Tibini Atta has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. The offense took place on September 24, 2026, at Digangan, a farming community. According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the 11-year-old girl allegedly went to a farm with Atta, where she was subjected to sexual intercourse.

The girl suffered injuries that required medical attention. Her uncle, a farmer, reported the incident to Kpandai Police at around 2:55 p.m. The girl was initially admitted to Kpandai District Hospital but was later referred to Tamale Teaching Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Atta appeared before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on September 25 and pleaded guilty.

He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale has visited the victim, who is currently being treated at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The police report that she is responding well to treatment and her condition is being closely monitored.

DOVVSU plans to continue liaising with the hospital and other stakeholders to support the girl's recovery.
