Trump rejects Iranian proposal to open Hormuz and end fighting

US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end conflict in the Middle East, according to remarks made at the White House. Iran presented the initiative at the UN General Assembly in New York, suggesting it could restore the crucial waterway and cease hostilities within seven days.

The president informed reporters that he had "rejected their proposal," emphasizing that Iran is "losing badly" and that the strait, vital for global oil supply, is a central issue in the standoff. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, detailed a seven-day plan for the strait's reopening, including the release of $12 billion in frozen assets and a lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil.

However, Trump expressed skepticism about Tehran's willingness to meet his demands and indicated a potential continuation of a renewed bombing campaign. Iran's Revolutionary Guards spokesman stated that until Iran's seven conditions are met, the country would continue to punish the US.
