Iran insists on diplomatic solution after Trump rejects peace plan

Iran has reaffirmed on Sunday that only diplomatic efforts can resolve its conflict with the United States and Israel, following President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and cease hostilities. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, stated through social media that Iran's terms for reopening the strait remain unchanged.

He emphasized that any progress towards the reopening of the Hormuz Strait hinges on these conditions being fulfilled. Iran presented a peace proposal earlier this week at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which was relayed to the Americans via Qatari mediators. However, on Saturday, Trump publicly stated his rejection of the plan, suggesting that Iran is motivated by desperation due to their unfavorable situation.

According to Trump, the Iranians are seeking an immediate deal to open the Hormuz Strait because they are facing significant setbacks. Despite Trump's public stance, the officials overseeing U.S.-Iranian negotiations with the United States have not officially communicated a U.S. dismissal of the proposed peace plan.
