Iran insists on diplomatic solution after Trump rejects peace plan

Washington, United Nations, and Cairo - Iran firmly maintains that diplomacy alone can resolve its conflict with the United States and Israel, following U.S. President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end hostilities. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated on social media that Iran's conditions must be met before any action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran presented a peace proposal at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, which was relayed to the Americans through Qatari mediators. However, on Saturday, Trump declared he rejected the plan, arguing that desperation is driving the Iranians to seek a deal to open the Hormuz Strait. Despite Trump's public statements, U.S. mediators facilitating talks between the United States and Iran have not officially confirmed a U.S. rejection of the plan.
