EC orders review of ECINET amid SIR row; Delhi, Maharashtra deadlines extended

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has established a committee to assess its ECINET system and verify compliance with relevant Acts and Rules. The committee, led by a Senior Deputy Election Commissioner and comprising an independent expert from an IIT or IIIT, will submit its findings to the Commission. ECI field officers have been given role-based access to the portal, with further flexibility expected as needed.

The Commission has also extended deadlines for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Delhi and Maharashtra. In Delhi, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended to October 30, 2026, with disposal extended to November 30. In Maharashtra, the deadlines have been extended to October 12 and November 10, respectively.

Additionally, BLOs will now visit the homes of voters who have been issued SIR notices, collect necessary documents, and upload them onto ECINET for review by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). This move aims to streamline the SIR process and ensure all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls.
