SIR row: BJP allies welcome Election Commission's clarification, accuse Opposition of spreading misinformation

Less than 24 hours after a discrepancy arose within the Election Commission's poll panel over the voter list revision, BJP allies rallied behind the panel on Saturday, expressing satisfaction with the Commission's latest clarification. Union minister Chirag Paswan, representing the LJP party, welcomed the Commission's statement, confirming that all key issues were addressed and the credibility of the electoral process restored.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu praised the clarity, emphasizing the integrity of constitutional institutions. In contrast, JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha accused the Opposition of spreading misinformation about the poll body. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, initiated by the Election Commission, aims to update electoral rolls and ensure accurate voter representation.

Following a meeting on Saturday, the poll panel asserted that all decisions regarding the SIR were unanimously approved by the three Commissioners. Measures announced by the Election Commission include a review of ECINET, advance circulation of meeting agendas, and doorstep collection of documents from voters. Responding to these developments, Naidu and Jha defended the Election Commission, debunking claims of dissent within the body and accusing the Opposition of spreading baseless misconceptions.
