Pentagon Probes How Parts Of US' Most Advanced F-35 Fighter Jet Ended Up In Hong Kong As China Reportedly Obtains Components

The United States Pentagon is currently investigating how components of the nation's most advanced fighter jet, the F-35, ended up in Hong Kong, with reports suggesting that China has obtained these components. The F-35 Joint Program Office confirmed the "shipment issue" and stated they are actively collaborating with US authorities and industry partners to retrieve the parts, investigate the incident, and prevent future occurrences.

Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles acknowledged the components' presence in Hong Kong but denied they were "sensitive equipment." China has reportedly acquired F-35 components, including a cockpit canopy and a weapons-bay door, following an unexpected diversion of a shipment from Australia to the United States for either repair or disposal.

The incident has raised concerns about potential unauthorized access to key elements of this sophisticated technology. The F-35 Lightning II, first produced 20 years ago in Texas, is considered a highly advanced fifth-generation fighter with stealth coatings, advanced radar and sensors, and networking capabilities to communicate with allied aircraft and ground forces during combat.
