South Korea Olympic boss gives Asian Games organisers an ‘F’

Ryu Seung-min, leader of South Korea's Olympic committee, harshly criticized the organizers of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, issuing them an "F" grade for operational shortcomings. The critique came after South Korean teams faced issues such as inadequate accommodations and unreliable transportation. Ryu expressed certainty that other countries shared these concerns.

If athletes' performances were adversely affected, a critical assessment was warranted, he added. The short beds in wooden container accommodations led to the relocation of South Korea's men's basketball team to hotels. Local organizers attempted to defend the accommodations, and the Asian Games and Olympic Council of Asia declined to comment on Ryu's remarks.

Deputy secretary-general Takaaki Omi apologized for the impact of organizational problems on athletes and officials. South Korea's team chef de mission revealed that the delegation had requested a formal apology from organizers, attributing the issues to cost-cutting measures. The Asian Games are scheduled to conclude on October 4.
