Police probing Negri Sembilan royal dispute from all angles, says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Police investigations into the Negri Sembilan royal dispute are being conducted from every angle following a series of reports, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The police's primary focus is to avert any potential violence and safeguard the public. Preventive security measures have been put in place to prevent gatherings that could potentially lead to confrontations.

Saifuddin declined to disclose operational details of the investigation but stated that police are examining all aspects of the issue. He indicated that the investigation may involve provisions under the Sedition Act or Penal Code, leaving the final decision to the police to determine whether to refer the case to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Regarding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's stance on calls to remove the Negri Sembilan Ruler, Saifuddin emphasized that the Prime Minister believes any attempt to remove a ruler is a serious matter under Malaysia's constitutional monarchy system. The royal dispute has sparked a debate over the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, with the New Straits Times seeking clarification from federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar regarding the specific provisions under which the reports are being investigated.
