Saudi Arabia warns of flash floods as thunderstorms persist across several regions through Sunday

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence has warned the public to be vigilant, as thunderstorms are expected to persist across various regions of the country through next Tuesday. The Civil Defence has advised residents to remain in secure locations, eschew valleys and areas susceptible to flash floods, and refrain from swimming in floodwaters. They have also urged individuals to heed safety instructions and updates provided by relevant authorities.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of the Mecca region, including Taif, Maysan, Adham, and Al Ardiyat. This downpour could lead to flash floods, accompanied by hail and strong downdrafts that could stir up dust and sand, reducing visibility. Light to moderate rain is also forecast for Mecca city, Al Kamil, Al Jumum, and Bahra.

Jazan, Asir, and Al Baha regions are anticipated to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, posing a risk of flash floods, hail, and dust-raising winds. Medina and Najran are expected to have light to moderate rainfall. Authorities have repeatedly cautioned against crossing flooded valleys or venturing near fast-moving water during periods of intense rainfall, urging motorists and residents to monitor official weather and Civil Defence alerts.
