CDM calls for bipartisan parliamentary probe into Ghana’s port and border-control systems

The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has called for a thorough parliamentary inquiry into Ghana's port and border-control systems following the seizure of approximately 3.9 tonnes of cocaine in France from a container that had departed Ghana. The organization argued that the Dunkirk seizure should not be viewed as an isolated incident, citing several other narcotics cases involving Ghana-linked consignments since 2025.

According to the CDM, these repeated seizures raise questions regarding how narcotics are detected, cleared, and transported through Ghana's maritime and aviation channels. The CDM insists that the investigation must extend beyond identifying individuals arrested in connection with specific shipments and delve into the institutional systems designed to prevent illicit drugs from leaving the country.

They desire the 2018 decision about the Narcotics Control Commission's role in container inspections, ensuing enforcement measures, and the management of intelligence on suspected narcotics trafficking to be scrutinized. Consequently, the organization has proposed a bipartisan parliamentary committee to review the entire record and summon relevant officials and institutions.

The CDM asserts that such an inquiry should uncover what transpired, pinpoint any institutional deficiencies, and suggest measures to prevent Ghana from becoming increasingly entangled in international narcotics trafficking.
