Bago urges religious leaders to preach peace, tolerance

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has called upon religious leaders to continue advocating for peace and tolerance as a means to foster unity, progress and development across the nation. In a condolence meeting held following the loss of 37 artisanal miners, Bago appreciated the Imams Forum and other Islamic organizations for their visit, urging them to prioritize peace over politics and lead by example, encouraging Nigerians to uphold moral values and treat one another with kindness.

The governor emphasized the importance of prayer for the nation's prosperity, assuring religious leaders that with faith, the country would overcome its challenges. He acknowledged the security issues facing parts of the state and appealed to religious leaders to maintain their focus on fostering brotherly love among Nigerians, irrespective of their differences.

Malam Umar Faruk Abdullahi, the leader of the delegation and director-general of the Bureau for Religious Affairs, shared the perspective of the Islamic groups, describing the incident as a devastating loss for all Nigerlites and a test of faith. He encouraged Bago to remain steadfast in his faith, viewing the incident as a challenge that would ultimately strengthen the state.

The Chief Imam of Minna, Malam Jibril Isah, led a prayer session for the deceased and for the state's unity and prosperity.
