SPR: Postal voting applications for Melaka polls open today

The online applications for postal voting in the upcoming 16th Melaka State Election are now open. The Election Commission (EC) secretary, Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, announced this on September 23. Voters can submit their applications through the MySPR portal at https://myspr.spr.gov.my. The deadline for submission will be announced later.

To be eligible for postal voting, applicants must register for a MySPR account or have an existing one. The applications are divided into three categories: Category 1A includes police and military personnel, election officials, EC members and staff, and media personnel. Category 1B is for Malaysians residing abroad, and Category 1C is for agencies or organizations. For any inquiries, voters can call the hotline at 03-88927080 or email upup@spr.gov.my.

The dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly took effect yesterday, paving the way for the 16th state election. This decision was made following the consent of Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, as announced by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum.

In the previous state election held on November 20, 2021, the Barisan Nasional (BN) party won 21 out of the 28 state seats, securing a more than two-thirds majority. Pakatan Harapan secured five seats, while Perikatan Nasional took two seats.
