KTR urges SC to take suo motu cognizance of concerns over ECI functioning

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao has called on the Supreme Court to independently investigate the Election Commission of India (ECI) due to widespread doubts about its operations. Rao expressed concerns over the Commission's credibility, stating that it must remain above suspicion as a constitutional body. He argued that no other agency possesses the authority to conduct an impartial investigation, urging the Supreme Court to step in and conduct a suo motu inquiry.

Rao recalled his previous interactions with the ECI, including a meeting with three Election Commissioners to raise concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He emphasized that despite formal representations during the Bihar elections, doubts about the Commission's impartiality persist. Rao stressed that only a top-court-monitored inquiry can restore public trust and safeguard the fundamentals of Indian democracy.
