NPP MP, EOCO Officer Clash At High Court Over Attempted Arrest

Drama erupted at the Accra High Court as an Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) officer tried to apprehend Nana Agyei Baffour, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament representing Manhyia South. Mr. Baffour arrived at the court to defend Salomey Awiti Batoh, a senior nurse involved in the Ghana Jollof public incitement case.

A video capturing the incident shows the EOCO officer standing in front of the MP's vehicle, requesting that he accompany her to the EOCO office. The MP, visibly agitated, questioned the woman's authority and the reason behind the arrest. He alleged that the incident was connected to his representation of his client in the Ghana Jollof case. Refusing to budge, the MP pushed the woman away from his car door.

One of the lawyers accompanying Mr. Baffour commented that the EOCO should write to the Speaker of Parliament if they intend to arrest the MP, as there is a proper procedure for such actions. It remains unclear why the EOCO attempted to detain the MP, especially considering his earlier claim that Ghana was a transit point for cocaine smuggling, with some level of manufacturing occurring within the country. Speaking on Citi FM, the NPP MP affirmed that his party possesses intelligence supporting his assertion.
