North-East Teachers’ Constituency to go to polls on October 23

The Election Commission of India has announced the biennial election for the Karnataka Legislative Council from the North-East Teachers’ Constituency. Polling is set to take place on October 23, with vote counting scheduled for October 27. The constituency includes Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Ballari, Koppal, Yadgir and Vijayanagara districts.

Zaheera Naseem, the Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi Division, serves as the Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer for the constituency. The notification for the election will be issued on September 29, with candidates able to file nominations between September 29 and October 6, during office hours. Nomination scrutiny will occur on October 7, and the final date for withdrawing a candidature is October 9.

Voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 23, followed by vote counting beginning at 8 a.m. the next day. The Election Commission has implemented the Model Code of Conduct for this constituency. To obtain nomination forms, interested individuals must visit the Election Branch of the Regional Commissioner’s office. Completed nomination papers should be submitted to the conference hall on the second floor of the District Administrative Complex in Kalaburagi.

Deputy Commissioners of the seven districts involved will act as Assistant Returning Officers, while Deputy Commissioners, city corporation Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Tahsildars will function as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. Ms. Naseem has established a complaint monitoring cell to handle any complaints regarding Model Code of Conduct violations or election guidelines, which will operate 24/7.

The election is one of four constituency elections scheduled for October 23 in Karnataka, the other three being the South-East Graduates’, West Graduates’, and Bengaluru Teachers’ constituencies.
