2027: ‘No messiah is coming to save you’ – Pat Utomi tells Nigerians

Political economist and public intellectual, Prof. Pat Utomi, has cautioned Nigerians against expecting a savior to emerge and rescue the nation. Speaking on Arise News, Utomi emphasized that the salvation lies within the people themselves, and not in the emergence of a messiah figure. Utomi pointed out that the opposition parties must collaborate and cooperate on certain issues to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the 2027 elections.

He clarified that the opposition can defeat the incumbent without merging, as each party has the potential to outperform the current administration on a level playing field. Utomi stressed that the opposition must cooperate and collaborate on certain matters to enhance their effectiveness in achieving this goal. He acknowledged the recurring issue of power versus purpose in Nigeria, where individuals are often swayed by the allure of power rather than a clear sense of purpose.

Utomi lamented the downward spiral of the country, attributing it to a lack of collective understanding and agreement on the common good. He urged Nigerians to move beyond the notion of a messiah and instead focus on the will of the people to replace the current order with a better alternative that benefits everyone. Utomi emphasized the need for the opposition to collude collegially and agree on a path forward that will lead Nigeria to a better future.
