Typhoon Dujuan leaves 2 dead, 46,000 houses without power in Japan

Typhoon Dujuan claimed at least two lives and left 46,000 households in Japan without electricity, according to authorities' report on Tuesday. The powerful storm caused five injuries and prompted the early closure of a major video game trade fair in the capital city. As Dujuan moved away from Japan's coastline, heavy rain and landslide warnings were lifted or reduced.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency confirmed one fatality in Kanagawa prefecture, while a local official revealed another death occurred in Chiba. Search efforts persist for four individuals missing due to landslides triggered by torrential rain. Dujuan's impact was particularly severe in Tokyo, with Oshima island recording 832 millimeters of rain over 48 hours and Tokyo's Edogawa Ward receiving an unprecedented 282.5 millimeters in 24 hours.

Scientists attribute this extreme weather to climate change, as warmer air can hold more water, increasing the risk of heavy rains.
