Orang Asli man dies in suspected tiger attack in Sungai Siput

On September 22, an Orang Asli man named Zamberi Angah, 42, was killed in a suspected tiger attack while searching for rotan in a forest near Kampung Takung, Sungai Siput. His body was discovered in a bamboo clump, approximately 200 meters from where the attack is believed to have taken place. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) received reports of the incident at around 4:30 PM, prompting a joint search operation involving multiple agencies and local residents.

Upon inspection, investigators found bite marks on Zamberi's neck and evidence of significant injury to his right knee. Other signs, such as dragging marks, blood, tiger paw prints, and remnants of his clothing, were also discovered at the scene. Lintang assemblyman and Perak Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun, expressed deep distress over the incident and confirmed Zamberi's death, offering condolences to the victim's family and pledging assistance.

Perhilitan has committed to installing a tiger trap and implementing monitoring and control measures to enhance the safety of the area, particularly for the Orang Asli community who rely on forest resources for their livelihood. The public is advised to remain vigilant and avoid entering the area temporarily as the authorities address the situation.
