Wike says Tinubu’s 2027 re-election remains his political priority

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized on Monday in Abuja that his primary political goal is to assist President Bola Tinubu in securing a second term in the 2027 presidential election. Wike dismissed allegations surrounding the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party political grouping, suggesting they were baseless and intended to unite individuals from varied political backgrounds supporting Tinubu's administration.

He expressed no concern about the coalition's accusations but felt disappointed that some individuals viewed it as a threat to political parties. Wike clarified that the coalition does not urge individuals to abandon their political affiliations or prevent them from supporting other interests. Instead, members and like-minded Nigerians are encouraged to support the President.

Wike also compared the G5 governors' actions to the Rainbow Coalition, questioning why concerns about destabilizing political parties were not raised during the G5's activities. He attributed the opposition to the Rainbow Coalition to underlying motives. The FCT minister revealed that he would appear on TVC later that day to provide further clarification on the coalition and the associated controversy.

Wike addressed speculation about his political aspirations, stating that determining his future plans cannot be done in advance. He emphasized that being alive is the first priority before considering political contests, highlighting his experience in the 2022 presidential primary. Wike acknowledged that President Tinubu would have an interest in choosing his successor after his term ends, but he believes the final decision rests with God.

Regarding infrastructure development in the FCT, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of ongoing projects, which are expected to be finished before the January 2027 general elections. He inspected the Inner Southern Expressway, service lanes of the Southern Parkway, and a road connecting Nile University to Ring Road III, commending the contractors for their work and assuring residents that the Tinubu administration remains committed to its infrastructure promises.
