2027: Political violence could jeopardise electoral process — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the increasing incidents of political violence, attacks on opposition members, and alleged voter intimidation, which could jeopardize the credibility of the 2027 general elections. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, highlighted these issues during a press conference and accused authorities of failing to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of such attacks.

The ADC accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to protect opposition parties and their supporters' rights to organize and campaign openly. Incidents such as the killing of a young man in River State and attacks on opposition political gatherings in various states, including Osun, Kogi, and Enugu, have raised serious concerns about the safety of citizens exercising their constitutional rights.

The ADC urged the Inspector General of Police to provide a public account of the status of investigations into these incidents, emphasizing that they demand a stronger government response and a rejection of political violence.
