Tinubu extends vacation in Europe, sets weekend return to Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation in Europe and is set to return to Nigeria at the weekend, according to a statement from the Presidency. Initially departing on August 30 for London, Tinubu subsequently traveled to Paris, where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed that Tinubu has remained informed about domestic affairs and continues to guide the country's affairs during his absence.

The statement revealed that Tinubu has directed an independent panel to investigate the tragic death of 37 illegal miners in Minna, who were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Upon his return, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who has been representing Tinubu at official functions, will likely resume his duties.

Meanwhile, Shettima himself is currently in New York attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly, which begins on Tuesday, September 22. The Presidency emphasized that Shettima will represent Tinubu at the UN General Assembly and deliver Nigeria's national statement.
