Srinagar court acquits Budgam man in UAPA case

A court in Srinagar has acquitted a man from Budgam in an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case. The court, under the NIA Act, found that the evidence presented was not strong enough to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The additional sessions judge, Manjeet Rai, stated that the prosecution had failed to provide reliable and unimpeachable evidence linking the accused, Zahid Ahmad Mir, to any terrorist organizations or activities.

Mir, a resident of Aripanthan area in Beerwah, Budgam district, was represented by advocate Muhammad Abdullah Pandit and Associates. The court ordered the release of the accused, who was currently in Central Jail, Srinagar. The bail amount set was ₹50,000 with one surety of the same amount, valid for six months to ensure his appearance in case of any further legal proceedings.

The court noted that the investigating officer acknowledged that no evidence was found connecting the accused with any terrorist activities during the investigation.
