Qatari premier says Gulf states have to act together on Iran

Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, emphasized the necessity for Gulf states to collaborate in order to restore stability in the region and facilitate a resolution between the US and Iran. He made this statement at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York City on Sunday. Al-Thani expressed hope that the ongoing conflict would serve as a wake-up call for everyone involved and urged the region to act responsibly.

His country, like its Gulf neighbors, has faced missile attacks from Iran and has been a key mediator in the conflict. Qatar aims to meet with US President Donald Trump this week during the United Nations General Assembly, as the US seeks a resolution to the Iran conflict that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz for energy exports.

Trump mentioned that he may be open to meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is also due to attend the UN meeting. In an interview with Bloomberg, Al-Thani called on Gulf countries to take responsible steps to curb the activities of their saboteurs and troublemakers. He reiterated that resolving the US-Iran conflict requires more peacemakers.

Shortly after his remarks, Saudi Arabia issued air-raid alerts for Riyadh, the first such alerts in the capital since the peak of the US-Iran war in March and April.
