PM Anwar reflects on reformasi journey, says ‘lawan tetap lawan’ spirit must endure

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently reflected on the reformasi struggle's journey alongside early pioneers and lasting companions who endured various trials and sacrifices since the movement's beginning. In a Facebook post, Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, expressed their perpetual remembrance of the contributions and sacrifices of everyone involved.

Anwar stated, "How could Azizah and I ever forget the contributions and sacrifices of each and every one of them, because without your strength, courage and fighting spirit, I would not be standing here today bearing the responsibility as Prime Minister." At the Perintis Reformis Reunion Hi-Tea event held at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC), Anwar emphasized that the fight for change was far from over and stressed the importance of nurturing the existing spirit of the movement.

He urged reformists to regroup and pass on the struggle's spirit to their children, families, friends, and future generations. Anwar highlighted that the reform endeavor demanded unyielding courage, patience, and resilience, stating, "We may grow older and our pace may slow down, but our spirit must never fade. We have fallen, lost, and suffered, but we also know how to rise again. ‘Lawan tetap lawan’ (The fight goes on)."
