Trump threatens Iran as Tehran warns of attacks on US bases and Gulf tensions escalate

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, has emphasized the necessity for Gulf states to collaborate and restore stability in the region to bring about a resolution between the US and Iran. At the Qatar Economic Forum in New York City, Al-Thani stated that the ongoing conflict should serve as a wake-up call for everyone involved.

He mentioned that messages are being exchanged between the US and Iran, and Qatar, being a prominent mediator in the conflict, has been under missile attacks from Iran too.

Gulf leaders plan to meet with President Donald Trump this week at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss resolving the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz for energy exports. Trump has reportedly expressed openness to meeting with Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected to attend the UN meeting in New York. Al-Thani, in an interview with Bloomberg’s Mishal Husain, urged Gulf countries to step up responsibly and curb their saboteurs and troublemakers.

Ending the US-Iran conflict will require more peacemakers, according to Al-Thani. While some Gulf states are seeking alternative export routes to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, Qatar has decided not to construct gas pipelines, asserting that the strait will never become obsolete. The Qatari Premier made these remarks on the day following Saudi Arabia issuing air-raid alerts for Riyadh, marking the first such alert in the capital since the height of the US-Iran war in March and April.
