Police: Preliminary probe finds Ipoh motorcyclists speeding in convoy before fatal crash

IPOH, September 21 — The families of two victims who lost their lives in a road accident on Jalan Jelapang-Ampang in Ipoh on Saturday are entitled to substantial benefits under the Social Security Organisation's (Perkeso) Lindung 24 Jam Scheme for Non-Occupational Accidents, according to a statement issued by the organization.

The victims, Muhammad Izdihar Rafiq Sarajil Korin and Muhamad Faiz Danial Jumri, were both 19 years old at the time of their tragic deaths. Perkeso records revealed that Muhammad Izdihar had started contributing to the scheme upon commencing work in January this year, whereas Muhamad Faiz had been contributing since August of the previous year.

Despite the accident taking place outside regular working hours, the families of the deceased victims remain protected under the Lindung 24 Jam scheme, which was designed to provide coverage for accidents occurring outside of work hours, even for those who have recently begun contributing to the scheme.

According to Perkeso, Muhammad Izdihar’s next of kin are eligible to receive Dependants’ Benefit payments of RM945, with these payments distributed among his parents and three siblings based on their respective shares. His parents will receive the payments for the remainder of their lives, while his siblings will be entitled to them until they reach the age of 21 or complete their degree.

Similarly, Muhamad Faiz's next of kin are eligible for Dependants’ Benefit payments of RM891, which will be distributed among his parents for life and one sibling until that individual reaches 21 or completes their degree.

In addition to the Dependants’ Benefit, the next of kin of both victims are also entitled to a Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000 each as a one-time payment. Perkeso projected that the total periodic pension payments through the Dependants’ Benefit to the victims’ next of kin over a period of 15 years would amount to more than RM275,000.

The fatal accident occurred around 3.35am on September 19, claiming the lives of three male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 20 at the scene, while nine other male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 25 sustained various injuries.
