Police: Preliminary probe finds Ipoh motorcyclists speeding in convoy before fatal crash

Tanjong Malim, September 21 - Preliminary police investigations revealed that a group of motorcyclists involved in a fatal accident along Jalan Jelapang-Ampang, Ipoh, were believed to have been speeding in a convoy. Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin stated that some of the group members, who were traveling from Ipoh, lost control and collided with a Toyota Vios.

The accident occurred around 3:35 am on September 19, claiming three male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 20 years, while nine others sustained various injuries. Police had previously conducted 64 operations to curb illegal street racing and road hooliganism in the area, but the motorcyclists returned to resume their activities after police operations ended at around 3 am.

Authorities are still determining the exact cause of the accident and identifying the actual owners of the vehicles involved. The 19-year-old male victim from Perak was still receiving treatment in the ICU at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh, as of yet, his statement has not been recorded.
