Nkrumah’s vision remains relevant to Ghana’s future — Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the vision and legacy of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as the country commemorates Founder's Day on September 21. In a statement shared on social media, Mahama highlighted the importance of reflecting on Nkrumah's role in Ghana's independence struggle and his broader vision for Africa.

Mahama emphasized that Nkrumah's dedication to liberty, Pan-African unity, and self-reliance contributed to establishing Ghana as a symbol of hope and possibility on the global stage. He noted that the belief in Africans' ability to determine and manage their own affairs remains pertinent to Ghana's national identity and aspirations.

The President urged Ghanaians to view the occasion as an opportunity to honor Nkrumah's legacy and recognize the ongoing responsibilities in the nation-building journey. While Ghana gained political independence under Nkrumah's leadership, Mahama stressed that the challenge of building a prosperous and equitable society remains unfinished.

He urged Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora, to apply Nkrumah's ideals to contemporary efforts aimed at transforming the country, linking his pursuit of political independence to the current need for economic freedom and social development. Mahama called for unity, selfless patriotism, and collective action to build a stronger and more equitable Ghana, emphasizing that just as Nkrumah fought for political independence, there is a shared responsibility to foster a prosperous, equitable, and resilient nation.
