Japa: Nigeria’s image abroad far from reality – United Nigeria Airlines chair

Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, has expressed his reluctance to permanently relocate from Nigeria, despite the increasing trend of Nigerians migrating abroad in pursuit of better economic and career opportunities. Speaking at a reception organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in honor of Prof. Justin Green, Green's President and CEO of the Global Alliance, Okonkwo stressed that Nigeria's image abroad did not align with its reality.

Despite his international exposure, Okonkwo stated that he could not imagine staying out of Nigeria for more than a week, as he preferred feeling relaxed after returning to his home country. He emphasized that Nigeria should seize the opportunity to showcase its reality to the expected thousands of international visitors at the upcoming World Public Relations Forum in Abuja, which is scheduled to take place from November 15 to 21, 2026.
