In Allahabad High Court: Illegal detention, Rs 50,000 payout and praise for police officer

The Allahabad High Court awarded Rs 50,000 in compensation to a man illegally detained by police in August 2026 and ordered his release. Praise was given to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Vivek Chandra Yadav, for his candor in admitting the police's error in his affidavit. The court expressed appreciation for his without hesitation admission of the mistake without attempting to avoid the issue.

The High Court ordered the man's immediate release, unless he is wanted for another offense, provided that the State follows proper legal procedures for future arrests. The court also directed the State to pay the compensation, to be recovered from those found responsible following an inquiry. The bench further directed that the officer's conduct be noted on his service record, and the State to take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
