Hundreds of flights cancelled as Typhoon Dujuan nears Japan

Typhoon Dujuan is expected to bring severe weather to Japan, with at least 275 flights cancelled and warnings of potentially record-breaking rainfall. The storm, accompanied by high winds, has already led to the early closure of the Tokyo Game Show and power outages for thousands. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that rain and winds will intensify before the typhoon's arrival, with total rainfall expected to surpass the average monthly September rainfall.

As the typhoon nears Hachijojima, one of Tokyo's farthest islands, wind speeds have reached 144 kilometres per hour. Over 4,000 households in Chiba, adjacent to Tokyo, are currently without power, and residents have been warned about heavy rain and possible landslides. Railway operators in Tokyo and neighboring regions have suspended services on some lines.

The cancellation of events includes the Tokyo Game Show, a major outdoor music festival, and a baseball match, all of which were scheduled to take place in Chiba.
