Hundreds of flights cancelled as Typhoon Dujuan nears Japan

Typhoon Dujuan has caused significant disruption in Japan, with at least 275 flights canceled and warnings of record-breaking rainfall. The storm, accompanied by strong winds, has also led to the early closure of Japan's largest video game trade fair in Tokyo and left thousands without power. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that rain and winds will intensify before the typhoon arrives, with the potential for an average monthly rainfall for September to be exceeded by Tuesday.

Winds are currently at 144km per hour, with the typhoon approximately 110 kilometres from Hachijojima, one of Tokyo's farthest islands. More than 4,000 households in Chiba, near Tokyo, were left without power on Monday, and the JMA and local authorities have cautioned residents about heavy rain and possible landslides. Japan Airlines canceled 120 domestic and 15 international flights, while All Nippon Airways canceled 140 domestic flights.

Railway operators in Tokyo and surrounding areas suspended services on some lines. The Tokyo Game Show, one of the world's biggest video game trade fairs, was called off on its final day, Monday. Additionally, a major outdoor music festival and a baseball match, both scheduled for Chiba, were also canceled.
