Hundreds of flights cancelled as Typhoon Dujuan nears Japan

Typhoon Dujuan posed a significant threat to Japan on Monday, prompting the cancellation of 275 flights and early closures of major events. The storm, with winds of 144 kilometers per hour, was located approximately 110 kilometers from Hachijojima, one of Tokyo's most distant islands. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned that rain and wind intensity would escalate before the typhoon's arrival.

Rainfall forecasts suggested that the total could exceed typical September monthly averages, leading to record-breaking heavy rain. On Monday, more than 4,000 households in Chiba, adjacent to Tokyo, lost power, while the JMA and local authorities cautioned residents about the potential for heavy rain and landslides. Japan Airlines suspended 120 domestic and 15 international flights, All Nippon Airways canceled 140 domestic flights, and railway operators in Tokyo and surrounding areas halted service on certain lines.

The Tokyo Game Show, the world's largest video game trade fair, was called off on its final day, Monday. Additionally, a major outdoor music festival and a baseball match, both set to take place in Chiba, were canceled.
