Googlebooks launch October 4 starting at $899—here are the five models you can preorder today

Google is set to enter the laptop market once more with the launch of Googlebooks on October 4. Priced starting at $899, these new Android-powered laptops aim to be real computers, boasting premium hardware, on-device apps, and robust development tools. Although Google has historically struggled to compete with macOS and Windows in the laptop space, the Googlebook initiative seeks to change that narrative.

Manufacturers of Chromebooks over the years are now selling the first Googlebooks. However, don't expect pricing to mirror that of Chromebooks. Only one model falls under the $1,000 mark, with the rest significantly exceeding that price point.

Googlebooks offer a departure from the typical budget Chromebooks, featuring vibrant OLED screens, metal constructions, substantial haptic trackpads, and the Glowbar. This illuminated bar on the lid lights up during boot-up and can display battery level. Google hints at the possibility of expanding its functionality through an API for developers.
