Google opens pre-orders for $899 Googlebook laptops built around Gemini AI

Alphabet's Google launched pre-orders for Googlebook, a new premium laptop category designed for Android users and powered by the company's Gemini AI tools, on Monday, September 21, 2025. The initial models, to be manufactured by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, will start at $899. These laptops are expected to run on either Intel or Qualcomm processors and offer up to 14 hours of battery life.

The launch comes as Apple intensifies its presence in the lower-priced laptop market with its $699 MacBook Neo, increasing competition in a sector where Chromebook manufacturers have traditionally focused on affordability and simplicity. Googlebook aims to elevate this concept with more robust hardware, AI capabilities, and enhanced Android integration, marking Google's latest effort to showcase a flagship ChromeOS device.

The lineup will include tools equipped with Gemini AI, designed to assist users in drafting and organizing text, answering queries about screen content, and resuming tasks from an Android phone.
