CNN, MS NOW and Politico to file lawsuit against Trump’s White House ban

CNN, Politico and MS NOW have announced they will sue the Trump administration after being barred from the White House, according to their respective statements.

President Donald Trump announced the ban on Friday, claiming the organizations were publishing "fiction or lies" about his administration, as reported by the BBC. The media companies say their journalists were denied access to the White House building on Saturday, as stated in their joint announcement.

In a joint statement on Monday, CNN, Politico and MS NOW declared their pursuit of legal action to "protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports," according to their statement.

While Trump later tweeted via Truth Social that the White House was "not instituting an assault on the Free Press" and was targeting "FAKE NEWS," the First Amendment forbids the government from "abridging" the freedom of the press, as courts have traditionally interpreted, as cited by CNN.

A CNN, Politico and MS NOW statement emphasized: "Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists' credentials because it objected to our reporting. 'Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public's right to independent journalism free from government interference,'" as expressed in their joint announcement.
