JUST IN: Taxi boss Bafana Sindane set to face Madlanga Commission over R2m extortion claims

Taxi magnate Bafana "King of the Sky" Sindane faces the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday to address allegations of extortion and money laundering, despite his legal team's request to delay his testimony due to prior commitments at the Khampepe Commission. The Madlanga Commission will hear Sindane's formal postponement application by midnight on Monday, but Chairman retired Deputy Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga insists Sindane must appear on Wednesday, regardless of the application's outcome.

The hearing takes place on a Tuesday off-day. Sindane is accused of coercing a mining businessman in Mpumalanga's Nkangala district into paying over R2 million in unlawful protection fees between 2022 and 2025, with the threat of business shutdown if payment was not made. He is also facing money-laundering charges linked to the alleged proceeds.

Sindane was granted bail after his arrest, with some reports suggesting he surrendered to police. The commission has subpoenaed Sindane and ordered him to testify regarding alleged criminal syndicates in the transport sector. Sibanyoni, one of Sindane's co-defendants, had testified before the commission on Monday, but his appearance has been postponed.
