Trump says planned arch in Washington to become military complex

President Donald Trump has announced plans to construct a massive arch in Washington DC, which he envisions as a top-grade military complex capable of housing drones, snipers, and ammunition. Groundbreaking for the arch was initially scheduled for this month, but the project is currently facing legal challenges. The US Commission of Fine Arts, whose members were appointed by Trump, had initially approved the project, but a group of veterans and an architectural historian have sued, arguing that Congress should approve the initiative.

The proposed location for the arch is a circle adjacent to the Memorial Bridge, and it would be situated between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The arch, which stands 76 meters tall, would not only serve as a cultural landmark but also as a military complex. According to Trump, the structure would be equipped to store and rapidly deploy a large number of drones and snipers, both on the roof and plaza areas. Furthermore, it would hold substantial quantities of sniper ammunition for storage.

Despite receiving early approval from the US Commission of Fine Arts, the National Capital Area Planning Commission, which granted permission for the site and preliminary plans at its July meeting, has not yet provided final approval. The commission is expected to revisit the matter in the coming months. This arch is one of several projects that Trump aims to undertake to leave a lasting impact on Washington, including the renovation of the Kennedy Center, refurbishing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and constructing a new golf course in East Potomac Park.

Trump asserts that all these initiatives, including the military complex arch, serve both aesthetic and defensive purposes for the nation.
