Mass drone barrage on Moscow kills 2

On the final day of Russia's parliamentary elections, drones targeted Moscow and its surrounding region, resulting in at least two deaths and damaging a major refinery. The capital's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that more than 1,600 drones were intercepted and shot down, with 450 aimed at Moscow. He accused Ukraine of attempting to interfere with the three-day election, which aims to solidify President Vladimir Putin's 26-year rule.

Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, praised the strikes, stating that they significantly impacted the Moscow region the previous night. One of Russia's key oil industry facilities and a logistics facility were hit, causing a fire that led to 400 people being evacuated. The attacks occur as Ukraine has stepped up long-range drone strikes against Russia's energy infrastructure to target the Kremlin's revenue source, now in its fifth year.

The election, featuring only parties that support Putin and the Kremlin's military campaign, is being held in occupied Ukraine, with few Russians doubting Putin's United Russia party's victory.
