Moscow faces the largest ever attack as Ukraine fires over 1,000 drones, according to reports from Russian officials. Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed to have successfully shot down 1,100 Ukrainian drones across the nation on Sunday, with 450 of those destroyed en route to Moscow. An oil refinery and a residential building were targeted, causing damage to key infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strike on the oil refinery, stating that one of Russia's pivotal oil industry facilities and the aggressor's logistics facility were hit. These facilities, valued in the billions of dollars, are crucial to sustaining Russia's war effort. The major attack transpired during the final day of Russia's first wartime parliamentary election, which Putin's regime is using to solidify its dominance.

Russia conducted voting in four Ukrainian regions that it annexed after the war began, but has limited control over, including Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014. The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, attributed the unprecedented attack to an attempt to disrupt the elections. However, this claim was met with skepticism.

The head of Russia's election commission reported that a drone attack on a civilian bus resulted in two casualties, including an election official, in a Russian-controlled part of the Kherson region.
