Current Agenda: “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy” — Kotin sounds alarm over drug trafficking

Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism executive director Emmanuel Kotin made an alarming statement about the dangers of drug trafficking, drawing a parallel with the biblical passage in John 10:10. Quoting the scripture, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full," Mr. Kotin emphasized the need for Ghana to confront drug networks rather than focusing solely on arresting drug couriers.

During an interview on GTV’s 'Current Agenda' programme, Kotin urged investigators to delve deeper into the ownership, financing, and network structure of drug consignments. He highlighted the scale of recent drug seizures, suggesting that they might indicate the involvement of well-resourced networks. Kotin also pointed out that Ghana is recognized as a transit point in the international drug trade, and the increasing number of seizures could be a result of bolstered surveillance and enforcement.

He maintained a positive stance, stating that Ghana should not be considered in a crisis situation but rather commended for apprehending these cartels. The New Patriotic Party was called upon to clarify its stance on a 2018 narcotics enforcement directive. Kotin cautioned against politicizing security issues, emphasizing the importance of evidence, accountability, and practical steps to safeguard lives and dismantle drug trafficking networks.
