KDN belum terima makluman rasmi pengampunan bersyarat Najib

The Ministry of Domestic Affairs (KDN) is still awaiting official confirmation from the Federal Territories Reconciliation Board regarding whether former Prime Minister Najib Razak will serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest if he details the RM50 million fine. KDN Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said his ministry and the Prison Department are unable to make any necessary preparations until they receive the detailed information and conditions of the conditional pardon.

During a media briefing in Kedah, Saifuddin stated that he is waiting for the clarification from the Legal Aid and Appeal Department of the Prime Minister's Department, which serves as the secretariat to the Reconciliation Board. The ministry will only be able to determine the next steps for implementing the decision in accordance with the existing legal provisions once they receive the confirmation.

Saifuddin, however, refused to comment on whether Najib's residence in Taman Duta should be designated as the house arrest location. He mentioned that the ministry needs to first determine whether the Reconciliation Board has designated a specific location or transferred it to the Prison Department's spokesman. Saifuddin also explained that Malaysia does not have a specific law regarding house arrest, but he is drafting a new law (RUU) to enable the implementation of house arrest, particularly for remand prisoners.

He has already obtained preliminary approval from the Cabinet to initiate the process of introducing the House Arrest Act in Parliament. If the law is passed, they can release remand prisoners into their homes and equip them with modern monitoring devices until their court hearing date. This is the primary objective they are discussing.
